DESCRIPTION OF ENGLISH NOTARIAL TERMINOLOGY

This article discusses the historical formation, theoretical foundations and systematic description of English notarial terminology. Notarial terminology was formed as a result of the specific development of the Anglo-Saxon legal system, the influence of French and Latin during the Norman conquest, and the expansion of the English colonial empire. The main purpose of the article is to divide notarial terms into thematic groups and reveal their semantic, functional and systemic characteristics. The study used the historical-comparative method, terminological analysis and descriptive methods. As the main results, four thematic groups of notarial terminology were distinguished: 1) terms related to the activities and powers of a notary (notary public, commission, notarial seal, apostille); 2) terms expressing notarial actions and processes (authentication, certification, legalization, attestation, verification, notarization); 3) types of notarial documents (affidavit, power of attorney, deed, will, codicil); 4) terms representing legal entities (principal, agent, grantor, grantee, testator, beneficiary, signatory). The article also analyzes the theoretical views of scholars such as Sarcevic, Sosoni, Alcaraz Varo, Ready on legal terminology and translation. In conclusion, the English notarial terminology has a logical system, and four groups form the conceptual field of notarial discourse in a hierarchical and functional relationship. The article is of theoretical and practical importance for specialists in the fields of legal linguistics, terminology and notarial translation.
