This article examines the role of emojis and hashtags as neologisms in modern internet communication from a functional-pragmatic perspective. The study reviews domestic and foreign works from the last 15 years and analyzes communicative functions such as stance marking, discourse management and topic indexing. Using Uzbek examples, the article demonstrates how these units convey emotional states, express attitude and organize text. Results indicate that emojis and hashtags enrich modern written discourse emotionally and interactively, expanding users’ expressive capabilities.
