Wild grape (*Vitis vinifera* L. ssp. *sylvestris*) is an evolutionarily significant relative of cultivated grapes and serves as a valuable genetic resource for viticulture. Natural populations of this subspecies face serious threats due to habitat loss, anthropogenic pressure, landscape changes, and population fragmentation. At the same time, as a vital source of genetic diversity, *V. vinifera* ssp. *sylvestris* may harbor alleles associated with resistance to drought, salinity, diseases, and other environmental stresses. This paper highlights the scientific and practical significance of studying the natural gene pool, determining the genetic structure, and ensuring the conservation of wild grapes.
