Abstract

This thesis examines the issues of semantic equivalence in Uzbek and English legal texts through a comparative analysis. The study analyzes the characteristics of legal terms, normative expressions, and legal concepts as they are represented in the two language systems and identifies their levels of equivalence. The main causes of semantic discrepancies arising in legal translation are revealed, and the advantages of the functional-semantic approach are substantiated. As a result of the research, semantic equivalence is classified into three categories: full equivalence, partial equivalence, and non-equivalence. The study demonstrates the necessity of integrating conceptual and functional equivalence in the translation of legal texts. The findings contribute significantly to the improvement of legal translation practice, the training of legal translators, and the advancement of comparative legal linguistics research.
