Abstract

This article examines the international legal features of diplomatic immunities and privileges as a key institution of diplomatic law. It analyzes the legal nature of diplomatic immunities, their functional significance, and the problems of abuse of diplomatic privileges in modern international relations. Particular attention is paid to the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and state practice in ensuring diplomatic immunities. It concludes that a balance must be maintained between the effective exercise of diplomatic functions and the prevention of abuse of diplomatic status
